This was a one of my favorite weddings of the year. The bride wanted a classic, yet textural and elegant look to her designs. The Foundry of course, it a stunning backdrop for these sorts of designs. We used lots of succulents, gardenia's, orchids, callas, spanish moss, snowberries, roses, and hydrangea. Aldine Printing. Or shall I say Aldine impress!

I had the pleasure of going to a f-a-c-t-o-r-y today. A real, live, historic factory! It reminded me why I love NY so much. It's so rare that old machines are still used on a regular basis to create beautiful, clean, manicured paper goods. Aldine is the only specialty printer left in Soho and is a family owned business to boot.

As I stepped out of the elevator doors, and into the home of Aldine, caught a whiff of an unfamiliar inky, oily type of smell as well as hearing a hum of paper constantly shooting out one by one in a rhythmic sort of pattern. I didn't really know what to expect during my visit to this printing museum (that what I felt like anyways!) but, as soon as I saw the production room, my breathing started increasing as I laid my eyes upon these gorgeous, intriguing machines, some of which are over 100 years old. I felt like I was in the Willy Wonka factory for printers. I actually saw someone sanding the edges of these round paper invitations to make sure each and every one is absolutely perfect. I have a new found appreciation for paper products and the manufacturing process. It really is an ancient art. Aldine Press was the printing office started by Aldus Manutius in 1494 in Venice, from which the famous Plato, Aristotle and other Greek and Latin classics were printed. The Aldine Press is famous in the history of typography, and the introduction of italics. Amazing...

This wedding was a on November 12th at The Park in NYC. We went for an elegant, yet warm feel and wanted to keep a strong "Old school New York wedding." We used orchids, callas, dusty miller, scabiosa pods, peony's, astilbe, wax flower, and lots of candle light.

How to preserve your bouquet!

Brides spend hundreds of dollars on their bridal bouquets, which is why they often want to know how to preserve this sentimental keepsake. There are several methods of preserving your bouquet:

The easiest, most affordable way to preserve your bouquet is to air dry it. You will want to choose an area that is dry, like an attic, or closet, rather than a damp area like the basement or a garage. You will want to attach some sort of wire, twine or ribbon to the handle of the bouquet in order to suspend it upside down to dry. I have found that suspending your flowers above a radiator (for you New Yorkers out there) has worked superbly because the heat encourages the moisture to come out of the flowers. The drying process should take about one to two weeks, depending on the dryness of the environment.

Another popular method is silica gel. This is an agent that can be found at most garden centers, craft shops or nurseries. The silica gel should be used in an airtight container; otherwise, it will absorb the moisture from the air, not from the flowers. This is a good method to use if drying roses, dahlias, zinnia, delphinium, and geranium. This method does not seem to be super-efficient, because if the bouquet is in an area where it is exposed to moisture, it will absorb it and wilt.

The most professional way to preserve your bouquet is to have it freeze-dried. This is only done by a professional. The bouquet is sprayed with a starch in order to lock in the color and is “baked” in a freeze drier. This seems to be the very best way to preserve the bouquet in it’s truest form. Formally preserved bouquets can last a lifetime! You’ll want to avoid direct sunlight and bright halogen lamps.

Costs range from free (if you dry it) to about $300 (if you get a dome, or a shadow box presentation after silica gel or freeze-drying it).

This was a mid-September wedding at the gorgeous, historic, Montauk Club in park slope Brooklyn. We used soft and feminine flowers, with a bohemian twist for the bouquets. The bout's were made with little polka dot feathers white ranunculous, and a chocolate cosmo for the groom's bout.

This is one of the most fun and creative weddings I have worked on to date. I met with the couple months ago and they told me that they wanted to base the table on famous NY icons like the Brooklyn Bridge, a coffee cup, a pigeon, a taxi, a water tower, the subway, and Ebbits field. I started thinking of a way to literally represent the icon without being cheesy about it and incorporating beautiful flowers into the mix of vintage props. I spent tons of time browsing ebay looking for the right additives. This is what we got! I also loved that the bride literally didn't have any color preferences for the flowers. She just wanted each table to be unique! I think we achieved that (:

Prospect Park Picnic House wedding.

The weekend of September 3rd was a very busy one! This was yet another wedding we did in our beloved borough. The bride wanted a relaxed, simple, yet beautiful mix of mostly muted, washed out colors with a few little unexpected textural pops. The bridal bouquet was made of juliette garden roses, scabiosa pods, queen ann lace, cedum, snow berry, hydrangea, dahlia, seeded euch, and shaker grass. The center pieces were made of a collection of containers including blue vintage ball jars, medicine bottles, and a wooden stump riser.

This August 26th wedding was super fun to design and was held at one of my favorite places to work; The Foundry, L.I.C. Rich in colors and tons of texture, we used a blend of oranges, purples, greens and pinks. I loved the greenhouse room where we used emerald green wine bottles with taper candle sticks along side bud vases stuffed with thistle, dahlias and dianthus. The ceremony arrangements were some of my fav's with the dramatic paper ferns, hydrangeas, thistle, greens, and branches.

This August 20th wedding was held in the back yard of Brooklyn brownstone steps form where I live. I love when my neighbors email me to do their flowers and we realize we sort of know each other (: Her colors were bright pink's and purples. We used fluffy, bright blooms including Dahlias, lisianthus with more modern flowers like Picasa callas and dendrobium orchids. The boutonniere was made of purple lisianthus and jasmine.

The bride and groom wanted an elegant, sophisticated, yet organic feel to their flowers. We used a soft mix of blooms including hydrangea, callas, dahlias, astrantia, seeded euch, scabiosas and more. For the ceremony we used glass cylinders with floating candles, petals and two larger arrangements using hydrangea, roses and curly willow branches.

I've got a few back to back posted because I am playing catch up from this summer's weddings. This was an August 13th wedding.

I LOVED this bridal bouquet. It was a small/medium scale using the sought after David Austin garden roses, red Piano roses, spray roses, dahlias, ranunculous, and coxcomb. We used a Daffy blue ribbon and a butterfly memento pined on to the handle. The centers incorporated hydrangea, hypericum berries, white lisianthus, red piano roses and stock.

The chuppah for the ceremony had lots of thin birch poles attached to steel structure, red berries and greens in the upper corners and white delphinium coming up from the base.

This was an August 5th wedding for two lovely fellow Irish folk that loved to bike. The bride requested her flowers to incorporate lots of herbs and wild flowers in addition to any sort of Irish element we could think of. As I scratched my head.... it came to me to use Jameson, Tullermordue, and Guinness beer cans as the containers! I carefully ripped off the tops o the cans, foamed them up and popped in the flowers. They were super fun and great for guests to take home.

Promoting the old school way (leaving business cards at your local wine store) really can bring you together with a new client as well as introduce you to a new neighbor/friend. This is sort of how I met my clients Ashley and Mike. In addition to her finding my card, her friend who is the editor of a large bridal magazine, met me at a wedding industry gathering months ago. Lucky for me, I stuck in her mind and came recommended to this couple's wedding.

This was one of my dream come true weddings to design. Being the ex- farm girl that I am, designing this wedding came very naturally and automatically. Asley and Mike were a complete joy to work with and were full of ideas, yet, gave me the reins to do what I do. Her bouquet was super fun to make. All she told me was "make it look like it's from the land." That's it! There were countless flowers used in her bouquet from fancy juliette roses and chocolate cosmos to the casual ornamental cale and shaker grass. She had NINE brides maids. She asked me "what do you expect?! I am from Texas!"

Ashley and Mike did a lot of work (and drinking) on their own to prepare for their wedding. Ashley drank an unbelievable number of the healthy Kambucha drinks in order to use the lovely glass bottles as one of the vessels for the flowers. She described the amount she drank as "almost gross"! The bottles ended up being perfect for our use. The other vessels we used were Weck jars and whiskey bottles! My husband owns a bar, hence my ability to collect an obscene number empty of Jack Daniels, Jameson, and Tullamouredew. We wanted to come up with something extra affordable to put in the mix of flowers. I tested out some ideas by submerging ferns, orchids and lavender into the whisky bottles, which turned out so pretty as well as unique and affordable.

At the end of the night, as we were packing up my van, and I got lucky enough to watch the now bride and groom walk out of the barn glowing, laughing and beaming with happiness as their guests waved sparklers and cheered. She then came up to me with arms wide open and tears of happiness in her eyes as she held me tight telling me how much she loved her bouquet and couldn't believe how amazing and perfect it was. This is what propels me forward. This is what makes the countless hours work, the 100's of emails, and the nit picking each flower worth it. This is why I do flowers.

Planning your bridal bouquet

Visualizing your perfect bridal bouquet can sometimes be a process. Because the bouquet acts as an accessory to your dress, it’s important for your floral designer to not only see your dress, but to fully understand the style, colors, and scale of the flowers you want to be holding. Ideally, we would love to see an image of you in your dress during a fitting as well as any hair accessories, shoes or jewelry you may be wearing.

Having a visual of these details can play into what type of fabric goes around the bouquet handle and influence the pop of color added to the bouquet. You also may want to consider incorporating a family memento to attach to the bouquet handle, such as your grandmother’s brooch, your father’s heirloom pocket watch or the handkerchief your mother carried on her wedding day. These unique touches not only make your bouquet all your own, but honor the family member who passed them down to you. In addition, they might count as your “something borrowed” or perhaps “something blue.”

One very clear way of communicating the type of bridal bouquet you are looking for is to collect images of flowers that you love. I find that when a bride sends me three to five images of bouquets, there are themes that give me an idea of exactly what she is looking for. If you put several bouquet images on the same page, you will notice the similarities. Maybe they all have a lot of texture, or they are only use two to three types of flowers, or the flowers are all fluffy blooms. These images will help your floral designer understand what your personal combination of flowers may be.

Once we have sorted out which flowers you want in your bouquet, we begin to think about which flowers or colors you want to see the most of. Some brides want all bright colors and some want all soft whites and creams, with touches or pops of color. I have often found the design and colors will change from a little to a lot leading up to the big day. This is perfectly normal and not a problem. It’s common that when a bride is planning her flowers six months or a year in advance, things change! Maybe your bridesmaids dresses started out as a bright pink and now have become a dusty pink. Maybe your shoes were champagne and now they are bright red. These details will change some of the colors in your flower design. Not to worry; just keep your florist aware of these important changes so we can always stay on the same page!

The bride was so sweet and had no shame admitting that pink is her very very favorite color! The style we went for was sort of a mash of shappy chic meets the Hamptons. We used garden roses, jasmine, stephanotis, orchids, hydrangea, calla, tulips, and white and pink gomphrena and more.

As many of you New Yorkers know, we recently had a very strange series of weather related challenges. A couple weeks ago we had a very serious hurricane closing in on the NY area and it was eminent that it would affect Brooklyn. I had two weddings this weekend. One on Friday and one on Saturday. In the middle of transporting Friday's wedding to the Foundry in L.I.C., I get an email from my brave bride from Saturday asking to see how many of her guests would be able to make the switch a DAY earlier to avoid this crazy hurricane. I instantly had a pang of sadness knowing that if she did switch her wedding date to that day, there was no way I could deliver her flowers, and set up her ceremony decor since I was already working a wedding. I emailed her right away and let her know that if she did switch the date, I would not be able to provide any of her flowers. She emailed me back saying that she completely understood. The whole time I was setting up the Foundry, I couldn't stop thinking about how disappointing it was for all of us that she wouldn't be able to get her flowers, which were all in buckets, sprayed, and hand picked for her. We decided to see what could be done in the nick of time. This is when the FUN began! It was a huge challenge and a huge rush to get this bride at the very least a bridal bouquet and boutonniere in her hands. We rushed home around 5pm. I scarfed a slice or two of pizza and high tailed it to my studio to put together the fastest bridal bouquet I have ever put together in my life. Her ceremony was at 7:30pm. I left my studio at 6:50pm, running to my car with a bouquet in hands and boutonniere in my teeth as I was scrambling for my keys. People literally stopped my in the street and were like "omg! what a pretty bouquet" I of course shared the story with a perfect stranger about the hurricane and date switcher-oo ect. I get behind the wheel and become a typical NYer. Keeping bumper to bumper, inching over every ground I could cover as fast as possible with one hand on the bouquet in the passenger seat. I amazingly get a parking spot right away near reBar, jump out of the car and up to the venue. It's now 7:18pm. I ask around for the bride and they tell my she is back in the bridal suit getting final hair and make up done. I go down the hall checking a bunch of doors and finally come to what I know the the bridal suit. I walk all the way back, peak just my head into the suit so she see's my face (holding the bouquet behind my back) she looks at my totally confused and was like "Rebecca!, what are you doing here?!" I push out my hand with a big, super duper freshly made bridal bouquet and she freaks out! I couldn't believe I made it in time!!! We hugged and both got teary along with her mom who was also very appreciative. Alas.... the bride has her bouquet JUST in time for her ceremony. This was the most rewarding moment I have had in a very long time. I always say... where there is a will... there IS a way..... She made my day just as much as I hope her bouquet helped make her day special in this unfortunate weather related challenge.

This was a super important wedding me for SO many reasons, and there is kind of a crazy back story to go along with the series of events that fell into place. First of all, the bride totally found me on her own as she was searching for a local, brooklyn, designer. She contacted me about 3 months before her wedding at my beloved Benchmark. I say beloved because this was the first place I have an organic, grass fed steak in TWENTY years. It was absolutely delicious and did me good, as I am a recovering vegetarian! The bride and I got along naturally and easily as if we were already friends. I recommended members of my new group Brooklyn Betrothed . She ended up booking officiant Carissa Templeton, from our crew. They got along easily and naturally as hoped/expected.

The bride is a gardener and a total fan of herbs. We wanted to make this an important part of the floral designs and were able to incorporate this in almost every aspect. Her bouquet was filled with herbs including lavender, mint, sage, oregano and much much more. We hung test tubes stuffed with lavender, scabiosa pods, and lisianthus along the wall for an interesting, textural decor in the relaxed, casual, yet chic venue. The bride gave out potted herbs/plants to her guest as favors. We set these adorable little plants next to my vintage bird cage that was decorated with Juliette roses and jasmine.

By the end of her wedding, there were some crazy realizations! Her now husband was a childhood friend of a very close friend of mine. That close friend of mine was ALSO officiated by Carissa Templeton years ago and I was the florist! Carissa and I were working a wedding together 4 years ago and didn't even know it. Small small world (:

This was my other July 23rd wedding that took place at one of my favorite places to work, the Brooklyn Botanic gardens. The bride was looking for a whimsical, funky, seasonal flowers using bright colors including cobalt blue, yellows, melons and white. Together we collected the cobalt blue vintage bottles to mix in with the vintage silver bud vases and my mercury bottle tea light holders. She also really wanted to have a natural touch being that we were in the BBG, so we incorporated a natural stump riser which is always a nice way to unite the collection of bottles. She wanted her bridal bouquet to be most sun flowers and her girls to have a seasonal mix as well as wild flowers. We used hydrangea, asters, thistle, crespedia, daisies, and greens. I loved working with this bride. She had a vision, yet, totally let me do my thing too. She was relaxed, happy and totally not worried about her flowers, which is always the best complement (: Enjoy!

This sweet lil wedding took place on July 23th at the charming Housing Works bookstore in NYC. The bride wanted fluffy, soft, "whip cream" looking flowers. We wanted to use peonies, but, they just ended! We trickled some bud vases along the long tables (professional photos to come) as well as something tall and interesting for the buffet area. The bride had a lovely purple bird cage vail with a flower, so, I tied in that color into the bridal bouquet by using mini Aluim flowers. We used Juliette roses, hydrangea, delphinium, pale pink roses, lavender, brunia, super pale pink celosia, queen ann lace, papyrus, chamomile, jasmine, and scabiosa pods.

This wedding took place on July 10th at the gorgeous Picnic house surrounded by the serene park. The bride wanted a very colorful pallet with and old world, "House of Mirth" feel. We used red charm peonies, straw flowers, blue dephinium, veronica, hydrangea, olive branches, and lavender. My favorite was the brass boot which was perfect to spice up the bathroom (:

NYC summer wedding.

The wedding took place on June 25 at the Harold Pratt House in NYC. This was a special wedding for me and my team because it was our friends wedding! It was a fun experience because we were there early setting up in our jeans and cloggs by day and then transformed into dresses and heals by night.... and then again for break down. It was like the Cinderella at the stroke of midnight! We danced and had an amazing time at the wedding, and then, as soon as it was over, we ran into the bathroom to rip off dresses and broke down the event.

The flowers we used were a bright combination of blue hydrangeas, yellow peonies, roses, godetia, calla's, ginger root, orchids, bluporum, and vibrunum.

For the ceremony, we strung about 200 orange carnations staggered in lengths across the back wall. It was a sweet and subtle way to frame the ceremony area keeping clean lines and an airy feel.

This July 18th wedding had one my favorite summer bouquets filled with yellow celosia, coral peony, blue tweedia, dahlia, status, spray rose and protea greens. The bout's were made of crespedia, hypericum berries, and blue tweedia.

English garden wedding flowers

This wedding was inspired by English gardens, bird cages and the outdoors. We alternated the tables with bird cages adorned with roses, veronica, lily's, orchids, peonies, and ivy. Around the base were little bird vessels and medicine bottles with mixed blooms. The other tables were using a tall, cast pillar with a romantic mix of blooms as well as bud vases at the base. There were 8 brides maids with all white blooms including roses, peony, and hydrangea. The mom's had a posy of large white callas. The bridal bouquet was made of a mix of soft, muted colors including callas, peony, garden roses, sweet pea and more. The little mini urns were used for the cocktail tables. I LOVE these little things! I found them at the annual Brimfield antique show this past May. The large, vintage, blue bird cage was the main piece for the escort table. I couldn't help but post these flowers for this 4th of July weekend. I have these wonderful serpentine vases that I am in love with. They are so organic, free flowing and simple. In this arrangement I used Piano garden roses, white lisianthus, light blue hydrangea, red dahlias, red spray roses, red hypericum berries and dusty miller. Happy 4th everyone (:

This June 11th wedding had a super fun color palette including hot pink and turquoise. My brides colors were light pink, hot pink, turquoise and teal. The bridal bouquet was made with celosia, peony, godetia, chocolate cosmos, freesia, hypericum berries and modern greens. reBar doesn't really have "proper" tables, so, it's all about super cute bud vases to brighten up the cocktail tables and the beautiful Harvest table in the center of the bar area. Bohemian wedding flowers, NYC

This wedding took place on May 28th in a tribeca loft. The bride wanted a casual, earthy, yet edgy mix of flowers to trickle down the farm tables both inside and out. We used a combination of mercury tea light bottles and votives to sprinkle in between the moss and floral elements. The chuppah was made of natural birch wood with mix match ribbons tied to the front posts that were blowing beautifully in the wind. This image is pre fabric, due to the intense wind on the 13th floor over looking the water! The top bar has spanish moss and roses hanging from above.

F.E.A.S.T. at Round Hill wedding flowers.

This was my other May 21st wedding that took place at the gorgeous F.E.A.S.T. at Round Hillabout 75 miles upstate. These clients were near and dear to me for years. In fact, I nearly watched these kids grow up! The bride was looking for a soft, playful, feminine and natural looking flowers. We used lots of Peonies, veronica, roses, astrantia, scabiosa pods, delphinium, lambs ear, astilbe and thistle. The landscape at the venue was the perfect back drop to suit both the flowers and the brides over all style. The isle may have been my fav from this wedding. We used vintage blue mason jars hung from a shepherd hooks to line the isle and put down soft yellow and pink petals. They had a hand help chuppah that was made by their family, which I will post when I get the professional pictures.

I normally do not like to travel very far for weddings, however, this venue was a a pure joy to work at and wouldn't hesitate to make the trek again!

I am very excited to share with you this super fun wedding that took place on May 21st at the gorgeous Brooklyn museum. My bride wanted bright colored flowers with tons of texture and kooky shapes. She really wanted designs that were outside the box of what you would expect from wedding flowers and of course I jumped to the challenge. In the beginning she wanted to incorporate little herbs or plants for favors because she loves to garden, but, sadly the museum didn't allow soil ): This gave me the idea to incorporate little radishes into her design because I felt like that represented her. She loved it! You'll notice in the close up shot of the center piece where I sneaked one in. In addition to the main center, we added little silver julip cups with thistle, red spray roses and billy buttons. Her bouquet was made with bold colors and included red charm peony, yellow ranunculous, vibrunum, poppy pods, white ranunculous, white peony, and yellow spray roses. The bout's were SO much fun!! This is a horrible picture, but, I promise I'll post the professional one when they come. You may have read on a ton of blogs about this brides invitation. I try not to post two weddings on the same day, but May is crazy busy! This May 14th wedding was super fun to design. The bride wanted a modern spin on springy colors. The bridal bouquet was one of my fav's. We used these gorgeous roses with bright pink edges, peonies, green mums, parrot tulips, poppy pods, orchids, and ferns. The bridesmaids held bouquets made of all greens and whites including peonies, mums, poppies, and ferns. The ceremony was at the Brooklyn Historical society where we used a larger scale arrangement set behind them along this stunning oak table. This grandiose space was perfect for the ceremony!

This spring-y wedding was so much fun to design! The bride wanted an unstructured, elegant look using soft tones. I chose muted greens like eucalpytus, succulents, and dusty miller to accent the flowers. The main blooms were peonies, pink veronica, ranunculous, poppy seed heads, and queen ann lace. We alternated the centerpieces by using the full scale arrangement with mercury candle sticks and paired the succulent based arrangements with a collection of mini bell jars. These featured tiny succulents with grey spanish moss for a simple, elegant spin on a terrarium! The escort table had a huge cherry blossom arrangement with little bird bud vases at the base.

This project was a gift to my husband and his partners who recently opened up the much anticipated Saint Vitus bar + music venue in Brooklyn. They have been open for one week and already have regulars! When I saw the architecture come together with the all the metal finishes, black tiles, wood and velvet, there was no hesitation for what I was going to do. The iron mesh where the lighting is hung above the bar was perfect for hanging roses! A few hundred of them (:

This event was sort of a launching pad for brand spanking new wedding event styling company called Clementine Events . Kathy Malone, producer of the annual Steampunk Day and fashion events is rolling out the red velvet carpet to those brides looking for a unique spin on a once in a life time experience. This evening was chalk full of super talented Brooklyn designers and wedding industry pro's. Our line up included photographer Kristina Hill, Anabel and Dorothee of Belathee photography, Ruth of Papertopias, Betsy of Nine Cakes, Dress designer Melissa Bell, Jeweler Maryanne of Wabisabibibrooklyn, Dance choreographer Beije of mindfuldance, make up by Genavieve of vievemakeup and flowers + jewelry by me!

It's rare that we florist's get our grubby little hands on Cherry Bloosms since they come around only once a year for a short period of time. They are the definition of beauty to me me. Branches + flowers makes this girl very happy. The flowers were for an art show featuring Mather and Company work incentive posters. They are fantastic, optimistic, usually colorful posters that date back to the 1920's.

This post may be one of the more sentimental explanations I have given about a wedding I have worked on. My bride from today contacted me only 2 weeks ago for her wedding in Battery Gardens. She was so sweet an soft spoken and truly excited about flowers. We met in person and she told me that she really wanted Ikaebana design. Although I have seen this before, I wasn't exactly sure until I did a little homework. Turns out that this practice tends to be a natural tendency, but, taken to the next level. Japanese Ikebana is a disciplined art from in which nature and humanity are brought together. It emphasizes other parts of the plant, such as the stems, leaves, petals, branches, and focuses on shape, line, and from. The artist's intention behind each arrangement is shown through a piece's color combinations, natural shapes, and graceful lines. In other words.... you mean to put each and every piece in it's "meant to be" spot (: I really enjoyed this process.

This wedding stirred up a lot of emotions about... well. life! This sweet woman is from Japan, and was in the middle of planning her big day when the tragic tsunami hit home. I could only think about what I felt like when 9/11 happened (on a smaller scale). It's just devastating and knocks the wind out of your soul. She had been on my mind, but, I wasn't sure how to or if I should bring it up. Yesterday afternoon she called me asking about some last minute hair flowers and when I asked her how everything was coming along; she was nothing short of positively ELATED about her family meeting his for the first time. She had everyone by her side, all together and starting her life with her man. I swear I could feel her huge smile and pure happiness through the phone!

Switching back a bit, I remember how I felt about life and what I thought was meaningful and what was not when 9/11 happened. I was a full time jeweler and part time massage therapist. I couldn't shake the doubts I had about if I was doing something meaningful or not. At that time, jewelry seemed utterly unimportant.... but... I carried on. Now.... being a florist... I can honestly say that being a part of (one of)the most important day's in someone's life and making them feel pretty, or special, truly means the world to me. These day's are few and far between and I get to see the happiest day's on a regular basis..... (:

My bride contacted me last summer to start planning her Feb. 19th wedding at the Botanical Gardens this winter. I have to say, it means so much to me to have a bride place such trust in me and leave so many design decisions completely in my court. She came to me knowing her colors were purple and grey and that her style was modern with a funky twist, but that was it! NOTHING makes me happier than to hand over a bridal bouquet to a happy bride. I loved working on this wedding!

The card table arrangement was made from Laurel branches with scallop shaped tags hanging from black ribbon assigning guests to a table. I wired in purple orchids into the branches for a pop of color and to soften the branches with blooms.

The grooms bout was made with a ranuncuous, purple trachelium and a touch of brunia.

During the production of my last event, I found myself in complete awe of my flowers. The care taking involved is like taking care of a baby. (OK, maybe that's a little too far) What I mean is that I find myself constantly changing the environment to make them happy. Window open for cold, window closed, because it's too cool. Blinds open for more sun, blinds closed for less sun. Bucket up on the table because heat rises, bucket on the floor for those who like it colder. I even come check on them in the middle of the night to make sure all is well in the flower room (:

My anemone's are from our local garden state New Jersey. When I picked them up on Thursday morning, you wouldn't even know they were Anemone's. They were completely closed and looked almost like a tulip! I put them in some warm water and in the sunlight and POOF they opened up like a jack in the box. At night they tuck themselves in. Literally they close completely up as it they never opened.

Hydrangea's also need some special attention. Hyro, meaning water, means these puppies need CONSTANT hydration. Not only for their stems, but, they love to take a 20 minute bath, fully submerged in warm water. Once they come out of the tub, they get sprayed with a special solution that helps lock in the water. There is also a secret herb to put on the stem to promote water uptake.

Matt and Laura wanted a warm, autumnal, wedding blending lots of oranges, reds, and yellows with plenty of texture. They are a relaxed creative couple who were a breeze to work with. We used mostly orange"Trix" roses, black baccara roses, orange protea, mini euch., berries, mums and celosia in our designs.

Laura also wanted a pair of custom made earrings to go with her vintage flare accessories. We created the perfect size hand made earrings using 14k gold fill, aqua-marie, and moonstone rondells for some shimmer.

The Montauk Club in park slope Brooklyn is one of my very favorite venues to work. It's old world beauty is breathtaking and was the perfect backdrop for my Oct. 23rd wedding. The style was a sort of darker twist on a French-parisian market. We used all warm tones which complemented the bridesmaids vintage, mix matched, mustard/gold dresses. The bridal bouquet was a mix of Dahlias, billy buttons, pheasant feathers, protea, and plumb colored roses. The center pieces were my signature mixed bottle collection on a stump riser covered with burlap. The card table was one of my all time fav's. I constructed a "bird on a wire" type card/tag holder. The tags had a tea stained look and were attached using tiny little clips. In the center of the table, I made a large arrangement inside one of my vintage bird cages. To the far right was a stack of vintage books with an oil lamp glowing in all it's glory. My bride scored a vintage mail box on Etsy.com where people would put their hand written post card into the box. Super cute wedding and even cuter couple (:

My bride was looking for a slightly vintage look with a crisp twist using bright greens and vivacious yellows. I used white hydrangea, yellow freesia, white ranunculous, billy buttons, star of david, ferns and a black handle for the bouquets. For the ceremony flowers, we used the most gorgeous white Amyrillis mixed with red and yellow berries, curly willow branches and hanging tea lights. The cocktail tables were small, so we used an assortment of containers to mix it up a bit. My favorites were these tiny little birds nest's with billy buttons, white dahlia's and china berries.

My client for this Oct 9th wedding was a very down to earth garden grower who's colors were burgundy and lavender. I LOVED putting her collection together. It was one of my fav's over the weekend. For the favors table, we did a bunch of little bud vases with burgundy scabiosa and rose mary sprigs. The bridal bouquet was made of white callas mixed with lavender and whispy greens. The brides maids bouquet's were made of fresh lavender and scabiosa pods. I loved the wristletts for the moms! They were made with mini succulents and fresh lavender on an adjustable, aluminum bracelet.

I finally got professional pictures from this wedding back in July and thought I would share. The ones I used were terrible, since I am no photographer (:

Linsey and Jeff found me online and promptly set up an appointment to talk about their flowers. These two were a pleasure to deal with not only due to their quality taste in style, but, they were beyond organized! The bride told me that her desired floral style was whimsical yet modern and clean and slightly edgy. They wanted to use all black, white and green florals to complement the exquisite Foundry venue located in Long Island city. We choose chocolate cosmos which actually smell like chocolate! Gerbera daisies with a black center, fiddle head ferns, white hydrangea, geranium, and stephanotis in the bridal bouquet. Her ceremony pieces were clear cylinders using branches, green berries, and gorgeous white delphinium. The HUGE urn was so much fun to make. I literally had to straddle between the ledge and the center urn. It is made up of Manzanita branches, vibrunum foliage, JUMBO fiddle heads (3 in the front of large arrangement) and white delphinium. Lindsey's brides maids wore a custom made head band with white Dahlia, chocolate cosmos and geranium attached to the side for a little 20's flare.

I love every thing from the 1920's and was thrilled to do a "Great Gatsby" style wedding at the Prospect Park Boathouse. This venue is not only gorgeous, but, it's practically my back yard. My bride contacted me only TEN day's before her wedding! We had a very tight budget, so, we did simple center pieces using Pampas ferns, white calla lily's and a strand of pearls dripping around the container. The brides maid's bouquet was created with pale pink hydrangea, pink lisianthus lambs ear and a subtle semi circle of pale pink feathers. The bridal bouquet was hands down my favorite from this collection. I got my hands on some unimaginably light pink "bombastic" roses which made for a breath taking-ly (not a word; I know!) sweet and simple bouquet. I collared the roses with soft silvery lambs ear for a final touch. I also used my vintage bird cage as a card receiver. Inside was a single stem of pale pink hydrangea in a vintage medicine bottle dripping with pearls and pink feathers sitting at the bottom of the cage.

These bridal earrings are made of hand wire wrapped 14k gold fill wire that has been wrapped, hammered and beaded with Moonstone and Aqua-marine semi precious stones. They have an old world feel that is slightly glamorous! She also requested that I make her a collection of bride's maids necklace that are from my "Sea Urchin" line. These are made of sterling silver wire that has been hand wire wrapped, hammered and beaded with green onyx (who knew!) and purple amethyst.

The gals from Lovely called me to see if I would come up with some fun flowers for the Carol Hannah trunk show last week. I was thrilled to find out that the theme was "an ice cream social." All I kept thinking of was strawberry ice cream and sprinkles, hence the super girly bouquet. I used this gorgeous pink hydrangea, white dahlias, green mums, pink roses, queen ann lace, and yes.... pink carnations. I too hated carnations for the longest time, but, am now finding that when in context, they offer a sweet, vintage feel that no other flower has to offer. I am officially a fan of carnations, especially because they are coming in some super fabulous bold new colors.

I tied a bright turquoise ribbon around the handle with some old keepsakes that I often like to incorporate from the brides. I also may some little party favors for people to take home including old school candy canes which were bound to a water tube containing a few stems of red spray roses, pink lisianthus, and green mums. *Note to brides.... this would be a SUPER cute card table idea.....

Prospect Park Boathouse wedding 8/7/10 Brooklyn, NY

Zack + Kay contacted me about 2.5 months before this rather large wedding at the Boathouse in Prospect Park. They had no particular flowers in mind at all! They told me that their colors were electric blue and grey and that they wanted a "structural, strong, edgey, and organic. Sooo...... I ran with that! *The isle was created with a birch log that was cut down into stumps that stood about 12 inches in height. I used a ring of flowers around each base using blue delphinium, scabiosa, eryngium, and spanish moss. *The centerpieces were both tall (Manzanita branch) and short (ponds). **more information below in these centers.

*The bouquets were made up of antique hydrangea, blue corn flowers, lavender, succulents, scabiosa pods, tibet roses, burgundy scabiosa, silver brunia, and this cool spidery green foliage.

*The bout's were my FAV! They were made of mini succulents, silver brunia, and lavender.

Prospect Park Boathouse wedding 8/7/10 Brooklyn, NY

The card table was one of my favorite pieces from this collection. It's slightly modern, yet swampy using a combination of Manzanita branches, and cattails in a tin can. The favors were these cute little can's that have a plant in them for the guests to take home. We placed these can's in two beds of grass for a pop of lush green. *The tall center pieces were made with Manzanita branches, blue delphinium, burgundy scabiosa, eryngium, silver brunia and succulents. *The ponds took weeks and weeks of planing. I went shopping for the perfect container for a pond and it happened to be a POT! It was a fun challenge to figure out how to confidently seal these puppies to prevent leakage and to secure the foam needed for the flowers. Inside the pond I used, Nelumbo pods, burgundy dahlia's, cattails, blue corn flowers, eryngium, scabiosa, and succulents. We added in some green moss and some underwater tea lights to give the ponds the final touch. *The balcony was SO much fun to design. It over looks the gorgeous Prospect Park pond where you find white swans, ducks, and turtles. More importantly, the bride and groom stood up here looking down at there ceremony site and guests before their vows were exchanged. We used greens that were bound together with a birds nests set in the middle. I chose burgundy dahlias and lavender to place into the little birds nests and you really could smell the sweet scents as you stood up there!

Lovely opened it's doors only three months ago and it quickly becoming known for it's super cozy atmosphere and fantastic wedding dresses. "it's around the corner she says" but, more importantly, she needed custom jewelry in a 24 hour turn around time! I always love a challenge, so, low and behold, she will be picking up her jewelry this evening (:

The gold necklace is for her maid of honor. It's made of a circular stone called Tourmalated quartz and has a beaded frame around the stone. The little blue earrings/Blue Quartz are for her bridesmaids who are all fair skinned blondes. Perfect!

reBar in Dumbo brooklyn was the venue for this sweet as pie couple. This venue is one of the coolest, relaxed spaces I have worked in so far. It features a barrel-vaulted terra-cotta ceiling, Art Deco lamps over tables of elegantly warped wood, and stained-glass windows. A converted industrial loft space, this intimate upstairs venue boasts intricate iron and steelwork, antique tulip chandeliers, and stained-glass windows.

The style was old world/french inspired using a range of colors from burgundy, blues, dark reds, and a touch of yellow. The bridal bouquet was composed of Black baccarra roses, wine scabiososa, yellow freesia, blue delphinium and pinkish red foliage. The handle was a natural wire wrap.

The Harvest table turned out spectacular. The two center pieces were made with Manzanita branches reaching out from a black urn. The branches were dripping with test tube cylinders and globes stuffed with flowers and chandelier bits hanging in between. Bird cage lanterns were mixed in between smaller arrangements on either side.

The ceremony took place under the double arch which I did up with curly willow branches and hanging tea lights. At the top of each arch was a special focal point of flowers made up of Black baccarra roses, and hanging pink amaranthus which gave an enchanted feel to the ceremony site.

Vintage Queen

This collection of flowers was selected as if you were looking for the freshest ingredients to cook that night for dinner. My client gave me a very clear vision of her antiquey, loose, organic, charming style. The venue is this gorgeous, country setting just outside of NYC, which lends to the relaxed feel. My favorite part of this collection is the set of gorgeous vintage milk bottles set in the wooden frame. I found these special props at the recent Brimfield antique show where I bought THREE set's of these. It would be amazing to do a long table to put all three set's with smaller alternating sizes in between. The milk bottles have tall green Vibrunum in the back, Poppy seeds in the middle and antique blue Hydrangea up front.

The flowers used in the smaller center piece contain white Peony, Poppy seeds, Artichokes, Queen Ann Lace, Hydrangea, Pink Astilbe, and greens.

This collection was totally inspired by the huge amounts of personality this amazing couple embody. My goal was to use CJ's favorite flowers, lilies, and give them a 1950's flare. I used red gerbaras, vibrunum, green mums and yellow foliage and white lilies. This vintage, dome shaped bird cage was used to house this unique display. It took some thoughtful engineering to achieve the asymmetrical flow of flowers. The engagement took place in a local bar which inspired me to use whiskey bottles for the taller arrangements, while the shorter ones worked perfect in small vintage mason jars.

Lisa came into my shop one day while I was arranging Valentines day flowers and hired me on the the spot! She was a fan of my jewelry and didn't know that I was doing flowers. She gave me total creative control of her flowers after pointing out designs I did in the past that she liked.

Next she sent me a photo of her dress, she said "this could only be considered bridal if I was on the star trek enterprise!"

These pieces are my proudest jewelry accomplishment.

After YEARS of making jewelry, I made it my mission to made a stunning, unique, wearable after the wedding collection of bridal jewelry.

The first set is called the "Marie Antoinette" This necklace and earrings combo was inspired by my wedding dress (PICTURED AT THE TOP!) which was champagne color with blues and crystal hues popping through layers of fabric. The stones used are hand picked Aqua marine and Moonstone rondells. The technique is my signature style of hand wire wrapping, hammering and beading stones one by one to create a delicate, yet strong piece. The gold is 14k gold fill.

The Pearl collection is called the "Jane Seymour" This was created for the elegant, more classic bride. Pearls are the symbol of purity and innocence which is perfect for the big day! They are made up of freshwater pearls that have been hand knotted onto silk. In the front of the necklace are two strands that are connected to the back by using hand wire wrapped, hammered, beaded oval's. The necklace is supposed to be worn a tad asymmetrically and the back is adjustable. The earrings are made into a figure eight which is symbolic of eternity. They are also hand wire wrapped, hammered and beaded with fresh water pearls and Moonstone rondells.

Brooklyn Based Wedding Crashers event 2010

This collection is was inspired by the winter cold and recent snow. I wanted to mix traditional flowers like tibet roses babies breath and white hydrangea with a pop of teal blue to give a vintage flare. Teal blue flowers are difficult to pin down, so, instead I used the silk skeleton key leaves for the accent. When I think of vintage inspired looks, I think of sparkles. The bridal bouquet has little stephanotis flowers with crystal in the center and the handle was wrapped in a organza and sequence hand sewn fabric.

The tall center piece was my favorite to make. It sat in my living room slowly growing into a subtly shimmering, earthy old world style arrangement. The curly willows have wire wrapped resin crystals climbing up the branches and some glued to the tips of the tallest ones. There are both larger crystal chandelier drops and tea lights dripping from the arrangement. The base is made up of a ring of spray roses, white ranunculous, babies breath, and curly willow tips shooting out from the base.

This collection was put together to feature both floral design and bridal/brides maids jewelry. The purple bouquet is made of Freasia, hydrangea, and peonies. The handle is wrapped in a natural wire handle. The bright bouquet is made of Poison pink roses, red tulips, hypericum berries and a black handle. The light cream and pink bouquet is made of roses, mini eucalyptus, and silver sparkle sprayed babies breath. The handle has both cream colored ribbon and a textured gold trim. The bridal jewelry is made of all semi precious stones, 14 k gold fill and sterling silver. The pearl collection is called the "Jane Seymour". The moonstone and aqua marine with gold is called the "Marie Antoinette" This collection can be tailored to suit any color combination your heart desires!

I met the lovely ladies of Domestic Bliss at an event at the Brooklyn Indie Market. They were so excited about my flowers that we set up a time to do a little flower making tutorial! The video shows you how to do your own flowers for your big day. (If you should dare to take on the stress!!!) I did my own wedding flowers and it's... well... quite a handful to deal with on your big day.

Steampunk event at the Brooklyn Indie Market

Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn- October 24, 2009 marks the Second Annual Steampunk Day at Brooklyn Indie Market, an emerging designer market, from 11-7 and Fashion Show at 4pm. Take the F/G to the Carroll Street Station.

This event inspired me to create a very unique collection of flowers for cutting edge bridal and event design. I went for some mechanic shapes, hard, bold colors, and textures to carry out my vision.

What is Steampunk you say? We asked fashion show coordinator Britney of Berit New York, "In short, Steampunk is science-fiction as it could have been envisioned during the Victorian Era which draws inspiration from countless cultures and nations across the world."

The center piece is made up of curly willows and long stem crystal callas in a tall cylinder vase.

The cocktail table samples are made up of Bella hydrangeas, china berries and little branches poking out for texture.

Drama for a Queen. Oct 4th 09

I have always wanted to create a royal combination of colors for a bold bride with a sharp sense of style.

The centerpiece is made up of Ferrari red Amyrillus, red berry branches, and tall curly willows.

The bouquet is made of Black Baccara roses; (my favorite), blue Muscari, and Anemonies. The handle has been wrapped with a gorgeous black cross hatched linen material with little white pearl pins to secure/decorate.

The mothers posy is also made of Black Baccara roses, blue Muscari and a gorgeous texture foliage called Wave leaf. Posy's are a modern choice for the Mother's in place of a corsage.

Wedding arch for Sara and Jason. Sept 6th 2009

I was asked to do this very special wedding arch for Sara and Jason to get married under. I love this couple! They had a very clear vision of having an ethereal, whimsical arch to say "I do" under.

The arch is made up of curly willow branches that reach up and over delicately touch in the top center. The bases are cover in spanish moss so as to appear that the branches are coming from a natural place. The flowers are made up of blue Delphinium, purple lisianthus, crab apples, sea holly, purple veronica, ivy, and burgundy Dahlia's.

The tea lights were placed for a magical, warm, enchanted feel. Plus, they are safe due to being battery operated!
